The project (overall)
This project establishes a semi-industrial poultry farm designed to create long-term financial independence and improved nutrition for an orphanage.
It combines two complementary production systems: 300 broiler chickens for regular meat cycles and 200 laying hens for continuous egg production. Together, they ensure both immediate and steady revenue streams—broilers generating periodic income, and eggs providing daily, reliable returns.
A portion of the production will directly support the orphanage’s meals, strengthening food security and improving the children’s nutrition. The surplus will be sold locally, generating sustainable income to fund essential needs such as education, healthcare, staff support, infrastructure, and ongoing development.
With an estimated production of 4,000–5,000 eggs per month, the laying hens alone can generate approximately 370,000 to 460,000 FCFA monthly. Combined with broiler sales throughout the year, the farm is positioned to progressively cover a significant share of the orphanage’s operational costs after an initial setup investment of around 4.1 million FCFA.
Beyond its economic impact, the project also serves as a skills-building platform, introducing older children and young adults to poultry farming, basic agriculture, and entrepreneurship—equipping them with practical tools for future independence.
Ultimately, this initiative goes beyond aid. It is a transition toward self-sufficiency: a system designed to feed, sustain, and empower the orphanage for the long term, ensuring financial stability and autonomy for years to come.
